An afternoon with Dr. Benjamin Franklin

It was quite a treat!  After sharing a few highlights from his life, the good doctor mingled with the crowd.

Here's a bit on the Franklin family grave at the Granary Burying Ground in Boston, Massachusetts:
Prominently displayed in the Burying Ground is an obelisk erected in 1827 to the parents and relatives of Benjamin Franklin who was born in Boston and is buried in Philadelphia. Franklin's father was Josiah Franklin, originally from Ecton, Northamptonshire, England, and his mother was Abiah, who was born in Nantucket and was Josiah's second wife. Constructed of granite from the Bunker Hill Monument quarry, the obelisk was constructed to replace the original Franklin family gravestones which had been in poor condition. The new memorial was dedicated on 15 June 1827.

Near the Tremont Street entrance are the ashes of the American casualties in the Boston Massacre which occurred 5 March, 1770.

The epitaph for his parents was written by Benjamin.

Benjamin Franklin and his wife Deborah are interred
at Christ Church Burial Ground in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

In 1728, Mr. Franklin composed his own epitaph (words appearing on a gravestone).  Notice both that the date of his death is left incomplete and his expectation for what would become of his "book" in the hands of its Author:

The Body of
B. Franklin
Printer;
Like the Cover of an old Book,
Its Contents torn out,
And stript of its Lettering and Gilding,
Lies here, Food for Worms.
But the Work shall not be wholly lost:
For it will, as he believ'd, appear once more,
In a new & more perfect Edition,
Corrected and Amended
By the Author.
He was born on January 6, 1706.
Died 17
