American Indians
Guiding Question: What would it be like to be a member of the ________?
To answer that question, immerse yourself in the study of an American Indian tribe:
1. Choose a American Indian tribe (5th from outside California; 4th, California).
2. Research (collect information about) the tribe. Use at least three
sources. Cite them specifically. Answer the Guiding Question: What does
it mean to be a member of the ...? Be sure to include information on:
-how geography and climate influenced the way the nation lived and adjusted to the natural environment, including locations of villages/cities
-the distinct structures that they built
-how they obtained food, clothing, tools, utensils, and weapons
-their varied customs, folklore (traditional stories), and religious beliefs and practices.
-their varied economies (business) and systems of government.
-their interactions with other American Indian tribes, the United States, and/or Europeans
-important figures/events in the tribe's history (as necessary)
3. Collaborate with others researching your tribe: Share your findings.
Discuss, Analyze, and Synthesize the information. How will you organize
and present your new knowledge?
4. Complete individually all Must Dos and one May Do of your choice:
Must Do:
1) 40 Maps (don't forget your Frames of Reference!)
2) Compose an Expository (informational) essay (typed or inked; if typed, double-spaced) with bibliography. Use the Rubric to evaluate and revise your work.
